AWW adopts AI-powered scanning for BIM and compliance

AWW Architects adopts NavLive’s AI-powered LiDAR scanning to accelerate BIM workflows and strengthen Building Safety Act compliance.

AWW Architects has selected NavLive’s AI-driven LiDAR scanning technology to strengthen Building Information Modelling (BIM) workflows and support compliance with the UK’s Building Safety Act across complex and high-risk projects.

The UK-based, multi-disciplinary practice employs over 100 architectural professionals and delivers work across the nuclear, defence, commercial and public sectors.

Operating frequently as lead consultant under traditional procurement routes, AWW often carries significant Professional Indemnity exposure, increasing the need for precise, reliable and auditable building information.

As regulatory responsibilities expand, including Clerk of Works and Principal Designer duties, maintaining an accurate and continuously updated ‘golden thread’ of building data has become central to project delivery. This is particularly challenging on existing or partially demolished buildings, where survey information can quickly become outdated and costly to refresh.

To address these pressures, AWW conducted a detailed market review to identify an in-house digital capture solution capable of improving survey accuracy while accelerating Revit-based modelling workflows. The practice ultimately selected the NavLive LiDAR BIM Scanner, which enables teams to capture high-fidelity point cloud data in minutes rather than days.

Using NavLive’s AI-powered platform, AWW’s designers can generate Revit-ready outline models that validate, correct and enhance existing survey and planning information. The technology has now been deployed across five separate buildings, with staff at multiple levels reporting consistent improvements in speed, accuracy and confidence in underlying data.

“The NavLive scanner has significantly accelerated our design workflow and achieved measurable cost savings while improving the accuracy and assurance of our model data. The system provides exceptionally detailed point cloud data within minutes and, through the NavLive software, generates Revit-ready outline models that correct and enhance existing survey and planning information.”

Nicholas Mulholland, Managing Director, AWW Architects

From NavLive’s perspective, the partnership reflects growing demand from architectural practices navigating stricter safety regulation and higher expectations around digital records.

“Architectural practices like AWW are facing increasing pressure to deliver precise, assured information at every stage of a project. NavLive was designed to give teams immediate access to high-quality building data, reducing uncertainty and supporting the level of rigour demanded by modern regulation.

“AWW’s adoption of our technology shows how digital tools can remove delays, improve coordination, and strengthen compliance across some of the UK’s most complex projects.”

Chris Davison, CEO, NavLive

With a long history of early BIM adoption and experience in highly regulated environments, AWW’s integration of NavLive positions the practice to meet tightening requirements around digital record-keeping, safety assurance and data-led design coordination as regulation continues to evolve.
